Plans for next week

We will be defiantly be starting the shooting within next week, and we may be able to start shooting on the saturday, we will also be doing draft shooting beforehand in this week so that we will know what we would wanna shoot in our music videos, and also to come up with ideas for the camera angles/shots and the lighting in the video. After we have our first shot is done we will be starting our editing with that part of the video.

Costumes

the ideas that we have for the costumes is that the one man band musician wears different tops/costumes when performing on the different instruments, however the costumes will be linking in with the song and the audience of the song also, we have thought of the one man band musician to wear hooded top, chequered shirt, and band tees.

Draft shooting

we are going to be borrowing a video camera and will be doing some draft shooting, we will mainly be trying out different camera angles, shot, and also with the lighting, after we have done our draft shooting, we can point out the good or bad stuff, and with the good stuff we could try and to place them in our music video. With the draft shooting this is going to help us a lot with the music video, as when to comes to shooting our music video we will already have experience with shooting with the cameras and therefore a lot less mistakes will be made when shooting the music video.

Lighting

Again for the lighting we will be doing the same as the camera angles, and that would be experimenting around with the lighting whiles shooting, and that would mean shooting the same thing a few times over but that would mean that when we are in the post production editing we can pick a shot out with good lighting that goes along with the style of the video and also with the song that is used in the music video.

Camera angles

We have thought about a few camera angles, but one that we have talked about doing is a close up on one of the instruments that the musician is playing. Whiles shooting we would be shooting the same thing over and over however each time we will e doing it at different camera angles and that way we could experiment with camera angles and shots, and therefore when in the post production editing we will be able to look at the different angles and therefore can pick out the better suiting camera angles/shots for the final music video.

Actors

For actors we would try and get some friends that have experience with acting/drama/theatre, as they would already have experience with acting and also will act more professionally than someone that has never done acting before. A problem that we could face is people dropping out and also someone or some people could be unreliable, and not turn up on time, or even not even turn up what so ever. However i believe that we will be able to find people that are reliable and also who will act professionally and therefore help us to complete the task quicker.

SFX

again like the sound we have not planned on using any sound effects, but again we may think of some sound effects that we could use when we are recording the music video, and therefore we would mainly be thinking of the sound effect whiles recording and also in the post production with the editing, as we may see some sound effects that we want to use in the editing software that we are using. Whiles doing recording again we may think of some SFX to use, and also whiles editing we could use some sound effects that are available for us in the software, and therefore we would add any SFX that we want to use when we are in post production.

Sound

For our music video the only sound that we have planned to use is the music it self, we have not planned on using any other sounds within the music video, however when recording we may decide to use some sound for the story part of the music video, but for now all we plan to use is the song it self. Whiles recording we may think of some dialogues for the actors to say whiles recording, and then we could add that into the music video, and edit around with it to fit into the music video for us.

Props

Some props we have talked about is some paper as the kid is pushed and the paper is thrown in the air, some rope to make a noose with, and also some smoke flares to produce some smoke/fog we may be using this for a scene that we have thought about doing. However some props we are defiantly using is the instruments (guitar, bass, drums, microphone, and keyboard)

Reasons for locations

We have chosen to use a practice room for the live music performance as the instruments will be ready to use their, making it easier as we are using a one man band performance and we will need to shot it several times with the multiple instruments, also with a practice room it looks the part as were an artist could play. We have chosen to do some of the acting/story of bullying in school as this is where most of the bullying takes place and its good for us as we can use anywhere in the school as a location.

Locations

We have a practice room out of school for the live performance of the song, we will have the musician playing the musical instruments throughout, and we will have to record the song over and over several times, as we will need the different shots and also for the different instruments. Also we are doing the story around bullying, so with the story side we could use some locations around the school.

Plans for after the half term

After the half term we will come back and start some of the editing for the scenes that we have recorded  for the music video, however we will not have all of the music video recorded so we will put the live performance in first, then afterwards we will put in the videos for the story part of the music video. Also we will be starting our meetings on a wednesday, this is to discuss about our progress, and also what else could we do or add to the music video.

Plans for half term

For the half term we want to have started filming some scenes for our music video, we are most likely not to have recorded the whole music video, but we wanna start recording the live musical performance for the music video.

Camera

We have a camera booked for the half term so we can practice some shots with the camera and also to be able to start recording the live performance of the song for the music video.

Musician

For our music video we will be only using one musician through out it that would be playing the music, we will be using a musician that can play multiple instruments, for example they need to play the guitar,  bass and the drums, so we will be using a one man band. This would be easier for us to do, as this way we do not have to rely on a group of people to turn up to for the filming, and also if one doesn't turn up then we would not be able to start shooting, so this way we will lower the risk of this. We already have a person in mind, and that is our friend Danny Bradshaw, as he is reliable and also he is talented in multiple instruments, so therefore he is the perfect man for the musician and we will be able to start the filming a lot easier and smoother.

Storyboard

We have started a very basic storyboard, we have taken screenshots of camera angles and shots that we like and might want to put into our music video, we will not be copying them shot by shot we will be putting our own twist on these shots so they will not look like the shots.

Roles - film editor

Also in the group i am the film editor, the film editor is responsible to get all the film in order for the final piece, the film editor often gets help off the director with the film editing.  So this means that i have to get the films together and also to edit them to make the final piece, which would be the music video.

Roles - camera operator

The role that I have in the group is the camera operator, this means that i will be in charge of the camera, and will be doing the recording of the music video. This means that i will be in charge of the filming equipment and also to record the directors visions, and make it as likely to the directors vision as  possible.

Song chosen

For the song that we have chosen is the song "sunrise" by our last night, we have chosen this because we have more ideas for this song for the music video, than the other ones we were considering, so therefore we would be able todo more towards the music video and also make it better. Also with this song we can get some interesting ideas from the video and also other videos that are similar however we will still be making this our own videos, but we will just be getting ideas.

Songs ideas

Me and Andrew have chosen two songs that we could choose, one being "sunrise" by our last night, and "one less heart to break" by patent pending, as with these two songs we will be able to get a band to be playing the songs and also there is a story within the songs, so therefore we could make a music video of the band playing and to also have a story within the video, so half is music being played by a band and half story being told, and shown.

Aims

By tomorrow i would like to be able to set up meetings for the group, and be able to come up with an idea of a music video we would like to do and write down some ideas and to pick a song for the music video by then also, and then by Wednesday we should be able to start a storyboard for the music video ideas.

Group and brief chosen

We are now in groups, i am in a group of three with me, Andrew, and we have decided to choose brief 1 (music video), this is because we have had experience with the tasks and also we have an interest in this and think that it would be fun to do this task. We have got a few ideas for this brief and believe that we are gonna be able to produce a good piece of work. We have to come up with a production name and also a time to meet, then we will be able to start recording and editing, we will have to find film locations and also with costumes, and for the roles we need to choose our roles, but we will still be able to help each other out with the roles.

Brief 3 - advertisement for a new product

Roles for the briefs

All the three briefs that i believe are the most realistic options are brief 1, brief 2 and brief 3. All the three briefs that are chosen are very similar, and they also have very similar roles that are required in it.

The Director
The director is responsible for the overseeing the creative aspects of a film, this would include the content and flow of the film's plot, directing the performances of actors, organising and selecting the locations in which the film will be shot, and not just that they will also have to manage technical details also, such as positioning of the cameras, the use of lighting, and the timing content of the film's soundtrack.

Location manager
Location manager are responsible for the final clearing of a location for filming.

Camera operator 
The camera operator uses the camera at the direction of the cinematographer, director of photography or the film director to capture scenes of a film or a video.

Film editors
The film editor is the person who assembles the various shots into the final and often with the help of the director.

Actors 
Actors are the people that are in the scene and are playing a character.

These are roles that are gonna be within our group, however we are all most likely to do bits and pieces from each role so we all help each other out also.

Ideas and plans

I believe that the most realistic thing that I will be able to do and make it look good and professional, is either a music video, or a film trailer and also a new product/service

Brief one is a promotion package for the release of a new album, to include a music promo video, with a music video we can shoot for a simple video and put the music over the top, if their is an artist or band that is playing an instrument, we can act playing the instrument and lip sync it. This way we do not have to write and perform our own song and makes it a lot easier and lot less work for the group. Also with brief one we have to two of the following:

• A website for the band 
• A digipak for the album's release
• A magazine advertisement for the digipak

We have already have experience with a music magazine as we have already created a music magazine,    so therefore this should be simple to make as we have already have had experience. We can also look at other bands homepage and be able to use it as our model to look at. Also the same could be said about the digipak, as we can look at other bands digipak and use them as models.

Brief two is a a promotion package for a new film and this includes making a film trailer for it, film trailer with a trailer we can shoot a simple trailer, we have already had experience with shooting a trailer, and we do not have to shoot a very complicated trailer and it will still look professional. We can only shoot a simple video as we do not have the proper equipment to shoot a huge production, however we already have programs that help us with shooting and also editing. Also \with this brief we need to do two of the following

• A website homepage for the film
• A film magazine front cover, featuring the film
• A poster for the film

Again we have had experience with  creating magazines, so therefore creating a front cover should be simple. With the homepage we can see similar films webpage and use them as a model, and also again for the poster we can look at similar film posters and use it as a model.

 Brief is an advertising package for a new product or service, and this includes two TV advertisements, with the TV advertisements we can make a simple one, and also look at other advertisements and use them as model ones, with this we also have to do two of the following:

• a radio advertisement 
• A TV programme sponsorship sequence 
• A web pop up

We have programmes already installed on the computer that will record our voice and also allows us to edit and therefore makes it easier for us to make a radio advertisement, and also we can listen to other radio advertisements. Also it will be simple to create a web pop up as they are simple designs, and again we could look at other examples and use them as a model. For a TV programme sponsorship sequence we can look at similar ones to ours and use them as models.

Stuff that I think that are good are the camera angles, especially the opening scene with the eye, it was a close up and i believe that that was the best shot we have done, another point i believe that we did good was the music as it was similar to the original trailer and we had to do it our selves, also with the basic editing i think that it was good as it made it look better and more professional. 

However there was stuff that we could have done better, for example with location, we could have used other locations, for example there was a scene with a elevator and we could have used a elevator. Also we could have used more props, we used one prop of a towel to look like a bandage however we could have used more props.

Film Editing

For editing the film we used iMovie, we placed our all our recordings on to the application and then we placed them in the order of when they are on. Once that was done we added music and basic edits, we mainly used fading from black, as this was easy to show that each part of the trailer was either at a different place or time, and also made it look more professional. For the music we couldn't find a sample form iMovie so we made our own music for the trailer using GarageBand and made it sound similar to what the music was in the original trailer.

Filming

For filming we had to take in a few points, location,camera angles, props and actors.

Filming locations
For our locations we decided to keep it in the school environment, as it was easy for us to just get a camera and start recording, however this meant that we were unable to recreate the scenes as we would like, as we needed to use more locations.

Camera angles 
we had a few good camera angles and especially the start when there was a close up of the eye, i believe that was a really good shot and angle. I believe that the camera angles is very good within the film.

Props
We did not use many props, we used one. We had a towel and wrapped it around to make it look like a bandage and it was only in for a second or maybe two, but that was important for the trailer

Story board

We made a story board at the start so that we are able to plan out how we want our trailer to look like, this helps the actors, so that they can see what they would need to do, and it also helps the cameramen as it would show them what camera angles to use, and also helps the director to be able to put their vision down and be able to easily recreate it afterwards.

First Lesson

The First lesson consisted of joining our group, deciding on the task we were going to do, and what our roles were in the group. We decided that we were going to recreate a trailer that we chose, and the trailer that we chose was for the film Lucy. Within the group we all did little things within the group, we did the acting and the directing, and we all decided to help with the editing at the end. So that way we all helped towards the end project.
